Approach Overview

One Brave Idea is committed to real-world applications of its science. One area of focus is incorporating our genomics and phenotyping approach into the hospital workflow for patients with life-threatening cardiovascular conditions, such as those with heart attacks.

Traditionally, the few days when a patient is hospitalized after a heart attack are widely viewed as a window of opportunity to educate patients and their families about CHD and lifestyle modification (e.g., the importance of quitting smoking). One Brave Idea will extend this concept, so that acute hospitalizations are an opportunity to engage patients and their families in genomic studies (using a custom platform for accelerated turn-around and interpretation of sequencing results) and deep phenotyping methods (to facilitate gene discovery and mechanistic insights). All of these efforts have a goal of improving clinical care and outcomes.
